I am enclosing a photograph of the project azea taken from our back
yazd. Our property ends just behind the tree where the project azea starts.
We have a number of concerns about this project. Here we want to mention just two
that we believe are relevant to this permit and that aze illustrated by the photograph.
First, the large cottonwood tree on our property is important to us because of its age
and beauty and because we are told eagles nest there in the winter. The tree is
watered by the irrigation ditch that runs across the back of the property in front of the
tree in the photograph. The ditch provides irrigation water to the project azea. We
aze concerned that the gravel mining operation may interrupt the water flow through
this ditch or that the water may be rerouted due to berms and such. Without water
the tree would die and we would like to prevent that.
Second, the picture illustrates why we question the utility of building a berm on the
south end of the project azea, ie, directly behind the tree.; This picture was taken
from ground level midway between our house and the property line. A picture taken
in the same direction from the deck of our house would show this even more clearly.
if the purpose of the berm is to effectively screen the mining activity from adjoining
property, a berm 20 to 25 foot or more tall would be required. It seems to us that
such a berm would at least inhibit irrigating and farming the adjoining field in
addition to being an ugly new feature on the landscape.
Thank you for this opportunity to comment.

0 6J"¢~lB N
_ ~ _____. -- 1-e.G'S-~ - -
Theron D Carlson Vera J Carlson
