TAB 5 <br />CULTURAL RESOURCES <br />General Introduction <br />Tab 5, Cultural Resources, contains docimentatian of cultural resource investigations parr" ^' <br />to the Hayden (,1Acli Tee+~>> , Inc. coal loadout facility ar~d rail loop. <br />A reoorda and file search of appropriate regulatory agencies conducted by Western Cultural <br />Resource Management, inc. (WCERn in 1980 revealed no evidence of historic or prehistoric sites in <br />or adjacent to the permit area (sea Atr~~~~t 5-1 - M®orandum dated March 4, 1980 from Charles <br />W. Wheeler (WC130 to Casa Legal, W.R. Grace and Company). <br />A representative of Hayden Gulch Te+m+~a~, Inc. contacted the Colorado State Preservation Office <br />(SFO?O) and the Little snake Resource Arm Office of the Hurmu of Land Management (HI1~0 to update <br />and verify the results of the 1980 records search. The SHFO responded on November 10, 1992 with <br />the results of a search of the Colorado Inventory of Lliltural Peaouroes (Attachment 5-1). The <br />SPHO search resulted in identification o£ one archaeological survey in the specified search areas <br /> (Sections 10, 14, 15, 22 and 23; T6N, ABBW) . The surv ey was conducted by WCtIId for Peabody <br />• Western Co al Company in conjunction with the Seneca II-W tie-across haulr+oad (Wheeler, Charles <br /> W., 1979. Haulroad Addendtm to the Seneca II-W Report of a Cultural Peaouroe Inventory of the <br />Seneca II-W Coal Lease. Permit C-82-057 P.R. 1, Volume 1, Tab 5). A portion of the survey was <br />conducted in the Sh4+s94.4sa of Section 14, !A¢iyNhMa of Section 23, and NW4 Section 22, all in TQi, <br />R88W. Three isolated finds were encountered in the survey, including one utilized flake and two <br />historic objects (all in Section 17, T6N, R88W). No sites ar finds ware found in areas that <br />overlap or are adjacent to the loadout paxmit area. <br />The 8IM responded on November 18, 1992. The same survey previously referenced was identified, <br />including the finding that no cultural resources were recorded in the vicinity of the southern <br />portion of the loadrnrt permit area. <br />This information indicates that no cultural and historic zeaouroas or a,~..ti~e..logical fmtures <br />will be affected by operational activities within the permit arm.
