III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
EXHIBIT H
WILDLIFE
INTRODUCTION
Investigations of wildlife species composition, distribution
and seasonal use were initiated in 1970 on the Colony (Dow 'West
and. Grand Valley) permit areas and have continued to some extent
through winter 1978-79. Although invertebrates have..been.ad-
dressed (Marquardt 1972, 1973a,b), the majority of studies have
st-ressed fish (Pettus 1972, Flickinger et al, 1973); reptiles
and amphibians (Pettus 1973a,b), birds and mammals.(Cringan
1973a,,b; Neil 1972a,b; Smith 1973; Stoeker 19.74a,.b). Emphasis
was placed on big game in reports by Cringan (1973b), Neil
(1972a,b,c), Paur (1972), and Ecology Consultants Incorporated
(1978, 1979). Based on these reports, a total of 33 species of
mammals,. 125 species of birds, 12 species of reptiles and amphib=
ians,.and.21 species of fish are known to. inhabit the.'permi,t
areas. A number of additional species of mammals,: birds, reptile s__
and amphibians, and fishes possibly occur, based on known dis.Eri-
butions .in northwestern Colorado (Armstrong 1972, Bailey and
Ni.edrach 1965).
Methodologies are not described in this report due to the diver-
~i•ty of .techniques employed by the various consultants over the
years. However, all methods were standard, scientifically.
accepted approaches to the acquisition of quantitative and quali-
tative data. The individual reports referenced above contain
methodology and are available upon request.
This.-exhibit, which summarizes.t~e results of the investigations
noted. above, has be:ea, ar•can.ged•taxonbmically.
