production. Water levels are slightly elevated at wells GB-5 and GF-5, probably due to the
significant 1995 precipitation. Small recovery is seen at well P-5, probably in response to increased
precipitation. Water levels continue to rise at GB-2, probably responding to recovery at its location
downgradient of a reclaimed pit (see Figure A-3 ).
The GC wells (GC-1, GC-2, GC-3-Figure A-4) are located near the northeast comer of
the permit area (PA) nearly two miles from mining activity. These wells are completed in the HI,
3rd White, and QAL aquifers, respectively. The water-level changes in these wells aze good
indicators of natural recharge impacts on these aquifers. Water levels in well GC-1 have been fairly
stable since the wet years 1983-1984. Water levels in wells GC-2 and GC-3 both reflect seasonal
variations with a slight lag from precipitation events. Increases were observed in all three wells due
to the increased 1995 precipitation. The deeper the aquifer, the more dampened the response (+/-
• 1 or 2 ft. for the 3rd White Sandstone).
Figure A-5 presents the static water-level elevations for wells GD-2, GD-3 and GP-9.
These wells aze completed in the QR, QR backfill and 3rd White Sandstone aquifers. Between 1988
and 1992, water levels at GD-2 have varied over an annual range of five to ten feet, possibly
reflecting seasonal influences. A dramatic rise of 32 ft. was observed from September, 1992, to
October, 1993, followed by a significant decline in 1994. In 1995 water levels increased slightly
and remained fairly steady during the yeaz (as opposed to most previous years). The steadiness seen
in 1995 is probably due to a balancing of increased precipitation with increased dewatering at Pit
D.
GD-3 is approximately 1200 ft. upgradient of well GD-2. It is topographically higher and
• closer to D pit and is completed in bacl~'ill. Its 1993 water levels show the same response that
2-5
