In addition, some of the soil boring locations have been specified to be drilled to bedrock.
The borings will be drilled until auger refusal is achieved, unless a boulder is responsible
for auger refusal. [f this occurs, the boulder may be cored or the boring may be offset
and redrilled to bedrock. A total of 34 bedrock holes will be drilled.
Rock samples will also be collected in Area 15. The rock will be cored using the wire-
line continuous coring method.
A'.:able (Table 1) is enclosed which provides a summary of the holes to be drilled and
their depths.
Earthwork and Sediment Control
As stated previously, it is difficult to estimate the actual amount of earthwork that will be
necessary to access the drilling locations. The enclosed table, Table 2, summazizes the
worst case earthwork that would be associated with the drilling program. Topsoil will be
windrowed along road corridors. Vegetation will be removed as necessary. Topsoil will
be removed from the drill pad area and stockpiled on the pad.
Surface water will be managed by ditches, culverts, and berms which will be constructed
along all new and existing roads. Any culverts installed for stream crossings will be
considered temporary. Sediment and erosion will be managed with silt fence, straw
bales, or other appropriate sediment control structure.
Area Specific Information
Area I: Area 1 is located in the vicinity of pond MB-5. The only equipment access to
this site is a low water crossing on the North Fork. Therefore, drilling in this area will
oa:ur late in the summer during low flow.
Area 2: This area is located on the west and east embankments of MB-2R. No road or
pad building will be necessary to access these drill sites.
Area 3: This area includes the Materials Storage Bench. No road or pad building will be
necessary to access these drill sites.
Area 4: Area 4 is located east of the Materials Storage Bench..Access to the drill
locations will be built from the road between the storage bench and the Sylvester Gulch
road.
Area 5: This area is located southwest of the RPE, on the east side of the Sylvester
Gulch road. The area will be accessed off of the new RPE haul road. Access roads and
drill pads will be required (see Table 2).
Area 6: Area 6 is located on either side of the lower Sylvester Gulch road. The area will
also be access from [he RPE haul road or the Sylvester Gulch road. Access roads and
drill pads will be required (see Table 2).
Erhrbit 69 June 1997
e.~ch69mr218 doc
