Benson Brothers Red Shale Pit
DMG 112 Application
Exhibit G -Water Information
(1) The operation is not expected to directly affect any surface or groundwater systems. The
proposed mining site is on the slope of a ridge with no groundwater apparent. The intermittent
stream in the area will have a culvert installed where the haul road crosses and will not be
altered in quantity or quality.
(2) The site will be graded to allow stormwater runoff within disturbed areas to percolate into the
naturally porous sub strata or be dischazged to natural drainage after proper filtration. A
Stormwater Dischazge Permit will be obtained from the Colorado Department of Health and
Environment.
(3) The only water use by the mining operation will be for dust control at a maximum of 6000
gallons/day.
(4) The operator will haul water from an adjudicated commercial water right they own off site for
dust control in this operation. They also have a permit for a residential well on this property
that would only be used in the mining operation if it was approved for that purpose by the State
Engineer and a revision to this permit is submitted.
(5) There will be no discharge of process water or water from dewatering. The applicant will
obtain for a Stormwater Dischazge Permit for Sand and Gravel Operations from the Water
Quality Control Division at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
