Benson Brothers Red Shale Pit
DMG 112 Application
Exhibit D -Mining Plan
progresses. The operation will consist of mining, crushing and stockpiling for 4 to 8 weeks at a
time. Then mining and processing will cease until sales deplete the stockpiles enough to
require another round of mining and processing. It is expected to take 15 to 20 years to
complete mining and reclamation, depending on market conditions.
f) The deposit to be mined consists of 10 to 50 foot thick layers of red shale that are often not
continuous and are inter-bedded with layers of sandstone and off-color shale that may not be
mazketable. We will remove 0 to 10 feet of overburden of debris and soils derived from
breakdown of the shale and sandstone. We anticipate mining an average of 20 feet of material
over the ] 0 acre area. The stratum immediately below the red shale is sandstone or unbaked
shale.
g) The primary commodity to be mined is red shale to be used as decorative rock for landscaping
and trails. Off color material may be usable as road base or fill material.
h) Some of the larger rocks on the surface may be suitable for landscape boulders.
