Mine Type and Location
Canon Dolomite Quarry
3. Duration of Operation
70 yez.rs
4, Total Area Disturbed
400 acres (approximately 20 acres will be disturbed at any one time).
5. Wildlife Species List Mule deer, Mountain lion, Coyote, Fox, Cottontail rabbit,
Chukar, Ground squirrel, Rock squirrel, Crow, Magpie, Mourning dove, Pinon jay,
Sparrow, Red-tailed hawk.
6. Endangered Species Impacted
None
7. Assessment of Mining Impact on Wildlife
Loss of 400 acres is a significant loss of habitat, tl;e roads and associated
truck traffic cause some disturbance. However, because only approximately
20 acres will be disturbed at any one time, there will not be significant
• impacts on wildlife. It is recommended that the roads be locked during
working hours to reduce traffic and disturbance.
8. Proposed Mitigation Measures, Including Reclamation for Wildlife Habitat.
After completion of mining, the disturbed site should be graded to 3 to 1
slope or less where possible. Any stockpiled topsoil should be redistri-
buted and seeded with native species of grasses and browse. Reseeding
according to the C.S.U. study will be acceptable.
Prepared by: Dwavne Finch _ Title: w.C.O.
Date: September 28 1977
cc: R. Taliaferro, Environ. Res.
D.
