and valley areas in Coal Gulch are basically the same, that is, a
• Ponderosa pine vegetation.

Based on the investigations conducted, Peerless Resources believes there
are no alluvial valley floors in the permit or adjacent area which will
be affected by the planned mining operations. There are no
unconsolidated stream-laid deposits holding streams in either Coal Gulch
or Lightner Creek. In Coal Gulch there is insufficient water to support
any agricultural activities. There has been no flood irrigation in Coal
Gulch. Furthermore, the capability of Coal Gulch to be flood irrigated
is extremely low. No sub-irrigation occurs in this area as well. No
alluvial valley floors occur in the vicinity of the mine. In addition,
no impacts will occur to the possible alluvial valley floor found in the
Animas River Valley. Surface water pollution will be prevented by
sediment ponds, sediment control measures, proper mining and reclamation
• techniques, and frequent monitoring of discharge water quantity and
quality. The hydrologic consequences of mining will not result in
disruption of the essential hydrologic functions of the Animas River or
even Lightner Creek due to the beneficial effects of water treatment and
water control provided by the sediment pond and the natural dilution of
potential mine discharge to Coal Gulch and eventually Lightner Creek and
Animas River.
2.06.9 Angering
Peerless Resources does not plan any angering operations; therefore, the
requirements of this Section are not applicable to the permit
application.
2.06.10 Coal Processing Plants and Support Facilities not Located
Within the Permit Area
• All coal will be processed within the present permit area; therefore,
the requirements of this Section are not applicable to the permit
application.
2.06-6
