~~
SPECIAL NOTE: I have been in contact with the lJ.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
concerning these eagles, and based the existing documentation and the birds
behavior patterns there currently is not any legal issues.
4) The removal of the trees along County Road 33A in order to meet
specific visibility requirements will result in the loss of several
blue heron nests. It has been brought to my attention that magpies
currently are the species utilizing those nests season after season.
It is quite typical for magpies to invade nests built by other
species and displace the original occupant.
POSSIBLE STRATEGIES TO MINIMIZE IMPACTS TO WILDLIFE:
Due to the limitations in methods available to operate a gravel mine such as
this, I have very few suggestions that are feasible to help this operation
minimize the impacts it will have on wildlife in the immediate vicinity. I
have been told that the crusher would only be in operation for a maximum of 4
weeks, and this factor alone minimizes the amount of detrimental impact the
operation would have on the surrounding wildlife. I would also suggest that
unless human safety is at risk, that as many trees along County Road 33A are
left standing as possible. Also, after speaking with Mr. Tellier and Mr.
Croft, they have made a verbal commitment to modify their intended reclamation
efforts to include a few small wetland areas. This modification helps great Ty
in mitigating some of the negative impacts the proposed operation could
potentially cause.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth K.
