r~~ riirl~rinrrir~i <br />A09 <br />s l ~' 2 01~. j SITE DESCRIPTION AND LAND USE INFORMATION Doc Date:12/11/2001 <br />• The proposed Twin Pines No. Z underground coal mine is <br />located appro}amately 2~ miles southwest of the Town of <br />Rockvale in Fremont County, Colorado. The mine is reached <br />by taking Highway 115 west from Florence, Colorado 2~ miles <br />to the junction of Highway 115 and County Road I1 A; <br />thence south 2~ miles to the Town of Rockvale; thence south- <br />west 1~ miles on County Road 77 to the mine access road; <br />thence south 0.75 miles to the mine site. <br />The proposed underground workings of the mine will encompass <br />120 acres more or less in Section 2 Township 20 South; <br />Range 70 west of the 6th principal meridian. The permit <br />area for the mine site will be contained on 9.75 acres of a <br />• previously disturbed mining area in the NW quarter of the <br />section. <br />The mine site has been planned to work within an existing <br />disturbed area on steep slope of a dry gulch, kno!~m as Lewis <br />Gulch. The era sting topography of the site area is shown <br />on Great Divide Engineers Drawing "Twin Pines No. II.~~ Land <br />use of the site was restricted by the previous disturbance <br />to a habitat for rattlesnakes, rats birds, and other rodents. <br />Runoff from the area is uncontrolled and contributes to the <br />sediment load of the Oak Creek drainage. <br />Before mining activities at the location, land use was <br />limited to wildlife habitat and range land. The steep <br />slopes (40-45 percent) rising from the gulch are broken up by <br />• benches of resistant sandstone. The area has a browse aspect <br />with some scattered pinon and juniper throughout. <br />~~ <br />
