GRAIL TAXADJUNCT
The Grail Taxadjunct series consists of deep well drained soils
formed from alluvium, colluvium and slopewash derived from sandstone.
They are located on mountain sideslopes and have slopes ranging from 0
to 49 percent.
Grail Taxadjunct soils are similar to and occur near Evanston shal-
low Variant soils. The Evanston shallow Variant soils have mollic
epipedons less than 16 inches thick and are shallower than 40 inches.
Soils of the Grail Taxadjunct are fine, montmorillonitic Pachic
Argiborolls.
This soil is a taxadjunct because it lacks a horizon of CaC03

accumulation in the control section.
Typical pedon of Grail Taxadjunct clay loam, 28 percent slope, is
located within 394,000N, 1,410,000E and 404,000N, 1,414,000E.
Al -- 0 to 18 inches; dark grayish brown (lOYR 4; 2) clay loam, very
dark grayish brown (lOYR 3/2) moist; moderate medium granular structure;
soft, friable, slightly sticky, slightly plastic; common very fine and
fine roots; many fine interstitial pores; neutral; abrupt smooth bound-
ary.
B21t -- 18 to 27 inches; dark brown (lOYR 4/3) clay, dark brown
.~
(lOYR 4/3) moist; strong medium angular blocky structure; hard, firm,
sticky, plastic; common fine roots; common fine tubular pores; many mod-
erately thick clay films on ped faces; neutral; clear smooth boundary.
2-209
