• PREMINING INVENTORY OF PLANTS
ON THE ROCK CASTLE MINE
There are three rather distinct vegetation types on the Rockcastle mine
lease that is located south of Hayden, Colorado. The average annual par-
ticipation is estimated to be 17 inches. During the calendar year of 198U the
annual precipitation at the Hayden Station was 15.4 in. X11 The growth con-
ditions for plant life was believed to be about average for the area included
in the inventory of the area to be disturbed by mining,
Inventory Procedure
The permit area that will be disturbed will involve about 110 acres.
There appear to be three major vegetation types: aspen, mountain brush, and
sagebrush. In each of the three vegetation types, an ocular reconnaissance
was conducted and inventory parameters were sampled according to the regula-
tions prescribed by the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board.
• The permit areas as shown on the Vegetation map have from six to 11
cluster plot areas for each vegetation type. From three to five acres within
each cluster area were sampled for plant cover and current biomass. Within
each cluster area, trom five to six samples were taken depending upon variabi-
lity among samples.
