1 NONTECHNIC* SOILS DESCRIPTION REPORT• <br /> ----------------------------------------------------------------------- <br /> Map ; Soil name and description <br /> Symbol <br /> ----- ------------------------------------------------------------------ <br /> WEE ; Wages-Eckley-Dix complex, 5 to 25 percent slopes <br /> This map unit is on sloping to steep side slopes <br /> adjacent to drainages_ It is about 60 percent Wages <br /> soil. , 18 percent Eckley soil and 12 percent Dix soil . <br /> These soils are so intermingled it was not practical to <br /> map separately. <br /> The Wages soil is deep and well drained. It formed in <br /> mixed eolian and alluvial material . Typically the <br /> surface layer is loam about 5 inches thick_ The upper <br /> part: of the subsoil is clay loam about. 9 inches thick.. <br /> The lower part is strongly calcareous clay .loam about 2 <br /> inches thick. The upper part of the substratum is <br /> strongly calcareous loam about 8 inches thick. The <br /> lower part is noncalcareous gravelly sandy loam. <br /> Permeability .is moderate to slow. Available: water" <br /> capacity is moderate to high_ Runoff is rapid anc:l <br /> hazard of wager erosion is high. The Hazard of soil <br /> blowing is moderate. <br /> The Eckley soil .is shallow to sand and gravel . It <br /> formed in gravelly alluvium. Typically the surface <br /> layer is gravelly loam about 4 inches thick. The <br /> subsoil is gravelly .sandy clay loam about 6 inches <br /> thick_ The upper part of the:: substratum is coarse sand <br /> about. 25 inches thick. The lower part is calcareous <br /> gravelly coarse sand to a depth greater than 35 inches_ <br /> Permeability is moderate from 1.0 to 20 inches and <br /> rapid to 60 inches or more . Available water capacity <br /> is Low. Runoff is rapid and hazard of water erosion is <br /> high. The hazard of wind erosion is moderate. <br /> The Dix soil is shallow to sand and gravel and we1L <br /> drained_ It formed in alluvium_ Typically the surfacer <br /> layer .is sandy loam about 7 inches thick . The subsoil <br /> is coarse sandy loam about. 11 inches thick_ The upper <br /> part of the substratum is gravelly coarse sand •about: 01 <br /> inches thick_ The lower part to a depth of 60 inches <br /> or more is sand and gravel . Permeability is moderately <br /> rapid.. Available water capacity is low_ Runoff is <br /> rapid and the: hazard of water erosion is medium. <br /> Hazard of soil blowing is high.
