EXHIBIT E
simplistic range of restoration techniques would suffice. The following alternatives to intensive
reclamation will be applied where conditions warrant.
• Supplemental fertilization. The disturbed area will be broadcast fertilized where it is
determined that the remaining vegetation can successfully stabilize the area with a supplemental
fertilizer treatment.
• Supplemental seeding. The disturbed area will be seeded where it is determined that the
existing plant cover is not sufficient to hold soil in place. Minimal seedbed preparation and soil
covering will be acceptable. This alternative may be combined with supplemental fertilization as
necessary. The native seed mixture to be used is depicted in Tahle E-S: Adjunct Disturbance
Seed Mixture below. Either drill or broadcast seeding methods will be considered acceptable
depending upon the size of the disturbed area and concomitant revegetation activities, if any.
When broadcast seeding techniques are used, the seeding rate shown will be doubled.
Tree Buffer Plantings
Tree buffer plantings will be completed during the life of the mining operation along the project
border paralleling Taft Hill Road. The buffer will be designed to achieve ayear-round, semi-
opaque barrier which permits a filtered view between Taft Hill Road and the mineral extraction ~ ~U
azea. The overburden stockpiles, constructed and revegetated as a part of this project, will also
aid in buffering/screening views of the project area during the life of the mining operation and in
achieving the standards set forth in Section 8.5.9A; Landscape Design Standards of the Larimer
County Code. These stockpile berms will be removed after mining is completed as part of the
reclamation process.
Buffer plantings will employ methods, materials, techniques, and success standards (Section
8.5.9: Landscape Design Standards) acceptable to the County. Individual tree plantings will be
made on 30-foot centers. A total of 50 trees will be planted. Though the planting will occur in a
single line, plantings will be staggered perpendicular (a maximum of 5 feet) within the line to
break the straight visual form.
A candidate list of species which maybe planted is presented below (Table E-l: Tree .Species
Suitable for Buffer Plantings) consisting of native, adapted species. No tree species will
comprise more than 25 percent of the total number of trees planted. Individual species planting
sites will be selected by the planting supervisor. Conifers species will be emphasized.
No trees or shrubs currently exist along the area proposed for planting.
