;. in 1993, a large increase from 1992. Well GMP-1 had a value of 8.9
in 1993, down from 16.1 in 1992.
A SAR of greater than 15 will result in an alkali build-up on
most soils and, therefore, will not be an acceptable irrigation
source. Some ground water naturally has a high SAR. Ground water
systems at Trapper mine do not yield an adequate rate for
irrigation and, therefore, are not very likely to be considered as
a potential source.
3.5 NHa AND N03
Concentrations of ammonia and nitrate are presented in
Appendix B, pages B-120 to B-14DJ. These constituents generally
decreased in 1993, most likely in response to increased recharge.
Wells GE1, GF2, GF3, GP1, GP2, and GP9 all demonstrated NHs
decreases back into their normal ranges. The 1992 NHa
concentration £or well GP9 may have been a data outlier rather than
valid data. Wells GB5, GP7, P3, and COY showed NOa decreases to
normal ranaes. These wells were among those about which the
Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology expressed concern at
elevated levels of NHs and NOs in comments on the 1992 annual
report. Well P3"s steep decline in N03 from 1992 to 1993 should be
viewed with caution until additional data points confirm the low
concentration. Well P8 had a NOa concentration of 8.2 mg/1 in
1993. up from 3.9 mg/1 in 1992, but is still within a natural
range. This well will be closely monitored. No mine-related
. sources of N03 have been identified. The fact that the wells on
3-13
