~~ <br />CIVIL RES'AURCES,LLC <br />method of compaction shall be submitted to the Engineer for approval. Self-propelled tamping <br />sheepsfoot type rollers shall be used for compacting. The rollers shall be capable of effectively <br />achieving the required density for the entire depth of the lifts being placed. <br />If, in the opinion of the Engineer, the surface of the prepared foundation or the compacted surface <br />of any layer of earthfill is too dry or smooth to bond properly with the layer of material to be placed <br />thereon, it shall be moistened and/or worked with harrow, scarifier, disc, or other suitable <br />equipment, in an approved manner to a sufficient depth to provide a satisfactory bonding surface <br />before the next succeeding layer of earthfill material is placed. If in the opinion of the Engineer, the <br />compacted surface of any layer of the earthfill in-place is too wet for proper compaction of the layer <br />of earthfill material to be placed thereon, it shall be removed, allowed to dry; or be worked with <br />harrow, scarifier, disc, or other suitable equipment to reduce the moisture content to the required <br />amount; and then it shall be recompacted before the next succeeding layer of earthfill material is <br />placed. <br />Material Properties <br />The below grade slope liner (Zone 1) will be comprised of compacted clayey soils meeting the <br />following criteria: <br />Minimum Placement Minimum <br />Construction Unified Soils Class and Compaction Testing Testing <br />Zone Requirements Requirements Requirements Interval <br />Zone 1 CH, CL, SC, SC-GC, CL-CH 95% of ASTM D698 Density by nuclear Each 1,000 yds3 <br />gage, ASTM D2922 <br />Minimum PI = t2% <br />Density by sand cone, Each 10,000 yds3 <br />35% or greater passing the ASTM D1556 <br />No. 200 sieve <br />-200 sieve, ASTM Each 10,000 yds3 <br />No more than 40% retained D1140 <br />on the No. 4 sieve <br />Atterberg limits, ASTM Each 10,000 yds3 <br />D424 <br />12.
