Probably the number one concern is the Sage Grou<e
strutting ground adjacent to the mine. This is the largest strutting ground in
North Park, and possibly the whole state. If the haul road transacts or approaches
too closely it will seriously impact the breeding potential for a very con-
e rable number of Sage Grouse. ~ '
Other items of cencer^ is the H•>,nte° ra^oe for a_ztelepe, deer an3 e'k. The deer use this area as a migraton•
route to lower winter ranges as well as somewhat of an intermediate range as trey
eve through during the fall-spring migratien5. The use b}• elk is of a much
lesser extent, but it is also used during a hard winter.
There are also other species that will be negatively affected to a certain extent,
these 1nClU:;E 5UC}r an is sl_ a_ COyO tc. iJt., rc}. t'u= ~: 5pelie.i, nliir=rvU_ - ~?ii
IOdCn:.S, weaSCl, Si W.'.:, ha:: yc;: , OJL~:.L., .._:,;r1C, n:.Ter0:15 r1ptU1'S 3:a 50 :e'Ji:..,: ,
and especially the ground nesting songbirds.
lye appreciate the fact that you plan to hire a graduate student to continue to
IIIC,^.l.tOr th0 Saba GrO:sc US::.b t~:0 .._.,_.
