disturbed site. Sediment control of the disturbed area will be maintained duringrevegetation
according to the measures described above. Drill site seed mix, shown in Tablet/-10, is broadcast
seeded and raked in. Access to the hole is necessary to monitor the success of the de-gassing
effort. Access roads used during drilling and monitoring of vent holes will be scarified and
reseeded next fall after such access is no longer required.
III.A.9 Underground Transaortation Rubber tired vehicles are used to carry personnel and
supplies from the surface to the underground mining area.
Coal is transported from the working areas by belt conveyors. The slope conveyor delivers the
coal to the surface coal handling facilities.
III.B Surface Support Facilities
Before the run-of-mine (ROM) coal can be shipped to the power plant, all or part of it is processed
in a preparation plant to remove some of the impurities. Coal handling and preparation facilities
have been constructed in the SE1/4, Sec. 4, T2N, R101 W (Maps 1 and 2).
• 111.6.1 Coal Handling and Storage The ROM coal is transported out of the mine portal on a
54-inch conveyor belt. A series of conveyors then transports the coal through the various storage
and preparation facilities. All conveyors are partially covered or totally enclosed to reduce dust
emissions and protect the belt from the weather. ROM coal is delivered directly to the rotary
breaker.
In the rotary breaker, large rocks and foreign material are removed from the ROM coal. The raw
coal is then placed on a conveyor and transported to twin 10,000-ton raw-coal silos from which
the coal is delivered via conveyor either to the coal preparation plant for cleaning or, quality
permitting, directly to the 25,000-ton slot storage.
After processing in the preparation plant, the clean coal is transported by conveyor to the
25,000-ton slot storage facility to await shipment to the power plant. A sampling system and scale
are provided between the preparation plant and the slot storage.
III.B.2 Coal Preaaration Plant The preparation plant processes the ROM or raw coal through a
mechanical gravity separation process. A fine coal froth floatation circuit is available to increase
Permit Renewal #3 (Rev, 8/99) III-29
