<br />1 <br />INTRODUCTION <br />3 <br />' Roaring Fork Resources, Inc. proposes to construct a gravel pit approximately 1.8 miles east of <br />Rifle, in Garfield County, Colorado. The project site is located in portions of Sections 11, 12, <br />13, and 14 of Township 6 South and Range 93 West and contains approximately 483 acres. The <br />' proposed permit area contains 308.36 acres. Roaring Fork Resources, Inc. proposes to mine <br />aggregates from four pits on 122 acres and potentially two future mining areas on 78 acres on the <br />east end of the project area. The proposed gravel mining operation is bounded on the north by <br />' the Colorado River; on the south by the right of way For Interstate 70; on the east by Marnm <br />Creek and on the west by a priu•ate ranch at the end of the I-70 frontage road. Please see Figure <br />1: Vicinity Map. The pertinent portion of FEMA's "Floodway" map (Community #080071, <br />' Panel # 143X, October 15, 1987) is included in this report, Figure 2. The FEMA mapping and <br />study ended to the west of the site boundaries. <br />' The Mamm Creek operation will include four mining areas and a surface facilities area. The <br />mining areas are designated as: <br />' 1. West Property Line to Horse Fence <br />Z. Slough to East Property Line <br />' 3. West End <br />' 4. Dry Creek <br />The surface facility area is located west of the Dry Creek Mining area and will contain the <br />' following facilities: <br />• Portable scale and house <br />' Concrete batch plant <br />• Asphalt plant <br />' Concrete products manufacturing <br />' • Sand and gravel stockpiles <br />• Office trailer <br />' • Portable shop <br />' • Borrow ditches and detention pond <br />A portable scale and house will also be installed near the access points for the mining areas as <br />' required. Access to the pits and facilities is via an existing gravel frontage road on the north <br />side <br />
