An operating oil well and associated equipment occupy a small <br />tract of land along a tributary of Saga Creek. Additionaily, oil, gas, and methane <br />drilling activity has increased in the last several years. Current activity is located <br />north and east of the permit area. <br />Land use related to water resou reel adjacent to the Seneca II-W Mine Permit Area includes <br />stock watering ponds, streams, and reservoirs. Numerous stock watering ponds are situated <br />to the southeast, south, and southwest of the permit area. Streams adjacent to the Mine <br />Permit Area include Dry Creek and Sage Creek and their tributaries, the largest of which <br />is Hubberson Culch. <br />Both Dry Creek and Sage Creek previously had small reservoirs located on them. Sage Creek <br />• Reservoir was located approximately one and one-half miles east of the Nine Permit Area. <br />In May 1985, the dam failed and the reservoir drained. It has not been reconstructed. <br />The John C. Temple Reservoir No. 2 was located on Dry Creek about one and one-fourth miles <br />(northwesterly) from the Seneca II-W permit boundary. This reservoir also suffered a dam <br />failure and has not been reconstructed. As discussed in the Alluvial Vailey Floor Section <br />of Tab ), approximately 30 acres of lower Hubberson' Culeh have hi stori Bally been hayed; <br />present land use of this area is pasture and hay land. Upstream of Sage Creek Reservoir <br />there is a small area presently used for hay production, Just north of the confluence of <br />Hubberson Gulch and Watering Trough Gulch (the start of Dry Creek), approximately 20 acres <br />of land are being used as pasture and hay land. <br />Haul Road. The haul road system leading from the Nine Permit Area includes the extattng <br />county road following Dry Creek to the general vicinity of the inaeti ve W, R, Grace coal <br />loading facility, located approximately two miles southeast of Hayden. From here, the <br />tie across haul road has been constructed to the Hayden electric power generating plant. <br />The existing county road extends about six miles from the Seneca II-W Mine Permit Area to <br />the W.
