Dept. of Natural Resources
Siegrist Construction Co., gravel pit application in
Section 2, T2N, R68W; Sections 35, 36, T3N, R68W of
6th PM; File X182-15
Personnel from this agency, familiar with the area in question,
have examined the above referenced application. I am told that
the project could be reclaimed to enhance the present wildlife
values of the area. The major problem is that the stream has
been channelized in the past and is of little present value to
wildlife.
We recommend that the integrity of the stream, or what is left
of it, be protected. A 100 foot buffer between the stream bank
and the gravel pit would seem appropriate or any other technique
which will stabilize the stream and prevent erosion into the
created gravel pits.
We would be glad to assist the project proponent in reaching a
mutually beneficial end result.
AFW:jb
cc: Bogart
file
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, Monte Pascoe, Executive Director • WILDLIFE COMMISSION, Donald Fernandez, Chairman
James Smith, Vice Chairman • Richard Divelbiss, Secretary • Jean K.
