' ,a
~' 2.04.7 (3) Water Rights
~, Table H,1 is a summary of the water rights in the adjacent and permit area of
Sunlight Mine. Sections that were checked for water rights at the State Engineer's
Office were: T7, R89W sections 2~, 27, 28, 29, 32, 33, 34, 35; and T85, R89W sections
3, 4, 5. Locations of the listed water rights are indicated on the Hydrology maps. No
i water rights are conflict is expected as the coal operator has received an adjudicated
' water right to O.lcis of the mine's pumped water.
The mine operator has applied for a well permit for the water being discharged
from the mine. This is the only permit in the vicinity of the milne. The Sunlight Ski
area to the west obtains its water from a spring converted to a shallow well on the
mountainside south of the ski lodge. The Moda ranch, approximately one-half mile
downstream from the Sunlight Mine along Fourmile Creek, also obtains water for
domestic purposes from a shallow alluvial well The ranch also obtains water for the
irrigation of a few acres of pasture on the north side of Fourmile Creek from the mine
discharge water from the Sunlight Mine. This mine discharge water is routed through a
small irrigation ditch that roughly parallels Fourmile Creek on the north but is not
diverted into the creek between the mine and the ranch. The rancher has an
adjudicated water right to the mine discharge water (0.2 cfs) through this ditch.
Ccnsequently, the rancher is dependent on the continued operation of the mine and its
pumped discharge for irrigation water.
d
a
n
i
C
