floodplain of the Colorado River, as shown on Map C-1. If water inundates part of the pit, all mobile
equipment will be moved to higher ground and the pi[ will be allowed to fill. The pit will serve to
lower peak flows downstream and possibly lessen damage by storing some water in the excavated
area. It is not Likely that the pit take will be captured by the river since it is over 330 feet away and
the River would have to erode the entire Interstate 70 to get to the site. Also, the floodplain in this
area is very wide and shallow and does not contain highly erosive velocities.
United has applied for a combined process water/storm water discharge permit from the CDPHE
Water Quality Control Division for the pit pumping as well as storm discharge. United is responsible
for compliance under this permit.
9. Water Information. Rights and Augmentation
All water rights issues such as availability of water for this operation, consumption rates, dust con-
trot, etc. is presented in Exhibit G -Water Information.
10. Schedule of Operations
Mining operations will only occur as dictated by demand up to the maximum rates described earlier
in the mine plan. Mining will likely occur any time during the year. United plans to have activity fot
two shifts per day (up to 18 hours/day operation) for 7 days per week, although many periods will
see much less activity. Activity is entirely dependent upon contract awards, etc. United does not an-
ticipate night gravel mining operations, although minor truck activity or repairs may occur after dark.
11. Mesa County Impacts and Environmental Impacts
The current mining operation is planned on a site that is planned for industrial use by the town of
Fruita and Mesa County. The major uses surrounding the site are industrial. Since the permit area
15 Road Pit 10/02 22
