Please review the
changes and let me know if they are acceptable. The County has requested that we get
revised responses from you and other commentors based on the changes.
1) We are getting a full 404 permit from the COE. It has recently been submitted to
them. Basically, we will disturb 1.97 acres of jurisdictional wetlands at the narrow
bottoms of the irrigation return canals but we will create 6.4 acres of wetlands as
fringes along the lakes.
2) We will install fish screens at all locations desired by CDOW. Please describe the
exact locations you would like these screens installed. No non-native species of fish
will be placed in any of the lakes.
3) As you know, we are avoiding all major cottonwood area. However, for each
cottonwood tree that is removed, two saplings will be planted along the lake fringes at
such time as the lakes are filled so that they will get water without irrigation. Later,
during development of the commercial sites, it is likely that additional trees will be
planted on the pads, which will be part of the landscaping plan of the development.
~) All ramps in and out of the pits (which will be at mild grades) will be left as
shallow shelves for wetlands. These wetland areas have not been calculated in the total
for replacement. They will be additional to the 6.4 acres described earlier.
5) The wetland seed mix and the upland grass mix have been modified to include more
diversity and to include shrubs and fortis. A number of the species you suggested are
meant for drier areas and may not grow in the wet areas along the lake. For that
reason, I have inserted some different species than the ones you suggested in your letter
of December 12, 2002 to CDMG. Please review.
