Mining will then proceed to Area 5, the final area of mining. For the mining of this area, the facili-
ties (which are portable), will be moved to the backfilled portion of Area 3 to allow Area 5 to be
mined. The facilities will not be placed on land that has been retopsoiled. The facilities area is ex-
pected to be approximately 10 acres. The table below shows the drill data and average thicknesses
for Area 5:
Area 5
Since Area 5 is 31.6 acres in size, an average depth of 21.5 feet yields 1,096,000 cy of
soil overburden. Initially, mining in Area 5 will be in a 7-8 acre area on the north end. Soil and
overburden from this initial cut will be moved to Areas 2, 3 and 4 to create 3H:1 V sideslopes and
peninsulas of land. As mining proceeds to the south, topsoil and overburden encountered will be
used to reclaim the northern par[ of the pit. As excavation moves south, overburden and soil will
continue to be used to reclaim land mined to the north as well as backfill in Areas 2, 3 and 4. In the
southernmost portion of Area 5, soil and overburden will be placed immediately to the south in the
mined out portion of Area 3. Excavation will then break through to Area 3 and this overburden and
topsoil temporarily placed in Area 3 will be backfilied in the southernmost part of Area 5.
The table below has a summary of the areas and volumes available for land area reconstruction:
15 Road Pit 10/02 13
Hole # Soil/Overburden
Depth Gravel Thickness Total Depth
5 20.2 22.0 42.2
6 22.2 21.0 43.2
7 22.2 21.0 43.2
8 21,2 23.0 44.2
Average 21.5 21.8 43.2
