der of the area will be stored in the 6.0 acres that has been mined out, In this way, a large amount of
overburden does not need to be initially stored out of the pit area. The total soil/overburden from
the area is 29.78 acres x 5.8 ft = 278,000 cy. Topsoil and overburden will Likely be moved with
scrapers, however, it is possible that trucks and loaders may also be used. Mining will be conducted
with front end loaders and dozers. A portable processing plant will be located in each pit and trucks
will be used to haul the processed material from the pit to the staging area located in the northwest
corner of the permit area. Al] fines from processing will be sold, therefore, no naturals or fines will
be available for backfi[ling in the excavated areas.
The overburden from the 6.0 acres @ 4.75 feet is 45,960 cy. This amount will be stored in the 2
adjacent overburden stockpiles shown on Map C-2. These stockpiles are 1.92 acres in combined
size and will have an average height of 10 feet, therefore, they will store 30,976 cubic yards. This
leaves 14,984 cy to be stored within Mining Area 1 adjacent to the initial 6.0 acres of excavation.
The 6.0 acre area will be mined to a slope of 2.OH1.OV to an average depth of 23.8 feet, as shown
in the above table. Once the initia16.0 acres is mined out, the 14,984 cy will be moved into the
mined area to backfill the slopes to 3H:1V. This will expose the remainder of the gravel within
Mining Area 1 and make it ready for mining. The gravel will then be mined from the rest of Area 1
while groundwater is being pumped to the sediment pond. It is expected that groundwater will be
encountered within 4-5 feet of the surface on all lower bench areas (Mining Areas 1,2 and 3).
Topsoil and overburden stripping will then take place in Area 2. The table below shows the drill
data and average thicknesses for Area 2:
Area 2
Hole # Soil/Overburden
Depth Gravel Thickness Total Depth
29 5.0 20.5 25.5
40 3.5 21.0 24.5
41 0.5 24.0 24.5
42 5.0 19.0 24.0
15 Road Pit 10/02 9
