_, <br /> <br />Abstract <br />A cultural resource survey was conducted of a ca. 200-acre <br />property, the Navaho Clay Pit, in Elbert County, Colorado. The <br />purpose of the survey was to locate, record, evaluate, and <br />provide management recommendations Eor any cultural resources <br />that might be located on the property. The survey was <br />accomplished by a Files search at the ^fFice of Archaeology and <br />Historic Preservation, Colorado Historical Society, Denver, and <br />by a field reconnaissance that consisted of walking transacts <br />spaced at 30-meter intervals. <br />Eleven cultural resources were located during the survey: <br />six prehistoric sites and Five prehistoric isolated finds. One <br />site was evaluated potentially eligible for the National Register <br />of Historic Places (NRHP); all other resources were evaluated not <br />eligible For the NRHP. The potentially eligible site consists of <br />two pieces of bone, one of which is deElnitely bison and one of <br />which shows evidence of cultural Fractucing, eroding From the <br />cutbank of an intermittent stream. Since this site has potential <br />Eor yielding information significant in Colorado prehlstory, the <br />recommendation is to avoid the site; 1E avoidance is <br />impracticable, Further investigation is recommended. <br />The pro,Ject area is recommended For cultural resource <br />clearance subject to avoiding or Further investigating the <br />potentially eligible site. <br />i. <br />
