- .. •- r
~ III IIIIIIIIIIIII III _,_,,~~; r
JAN 2 9 1996
Division of Minerals & GeoiogY
DESCRIPTION OF APPLICATION
FOREST SERVICE PIT -SPRING CREEK PASS
CDOT presently has a l 11 permit, M88-062. The existing 9.53 acres in the 1 1 1 permit are
included within the 112 permit boundaries. Therefore CDOT wishes to terminate the 111 permit
when the 112 permit is approved. The total acreage of the 112 pit will be 35.00 acres.
The existing pit has been used by both the US Forest Service and CDOT. It is currently
mined out and not reclaimed. Temporarily seeding and erosion control berms were completed
during fall 1995.
Both the US Forest Service and CDOT plan to continue use of this pit for an estimated 30
years. The site will be used intermittently for production of paving aggregates and hot mixed
bituminous pavement. A portion of the pit will be used for stockpiling topsoil and crushed
aggregates on a full time basis. It is intended that the maximum disturbed area will be no larger
than 13 acres. Temporary revegetation of the active pit area will be done if the pit is not intended
to be used during the following year. Staged permanent reclamation should keep the active pit
area to less than 13 acres. Permanent reclamation will return the land to it's original use,
rangeland.
CDOT has not yet obtained a Special Use Permit from the US Forest Service as explained
in EXHIBIT "M". CDOT requests a approval of this application conditional on obtaining the
Special Use Permit.
