RECLAMATIUN PLAN
EXHIBIT E
. IRECLAMATIQV PI~IV
The reclamation of this site, compared to same other types of mining
operations, will be a relatively simple process. The only deterrent to
excellent reclamation will be the fairly normal dry and hot summer conditions
in the Pueblo area. However, even that can be counteracted by careful
selection of species planted, adjustments in the planting dates, and the
methods used in replacing the growth medium.
Topographic changes on the site will be very slight and in many areas
not even noticeable to most people. This is caused by the thin gravel
deposit. Post mining changes in elevation will be on the order of 8 to 16
feet Cmostly around 10 to 12 feet) with very little change in the
configuration of the land.
PROPOSED FINAL LAND LISE: Surrounding land uses vary from grazing and
wildlife to the south, west, and, to some extent, to the east. To the north
• and about 150' below the elevation of these old river terraces and the
extraction site is an extensive area of agricultural land used for growing
corn, onions, beans, melons, and other crops on both a large and small scale.
There are same residential uses in this area as well, but the homes are mainly
occupies! by the farmers aho work the fields.
At present, there are no residential developments in this area other
than the unincorporated town of Vineland which is largely composed of schools,
a few residences, and some service businesses. Although Vineland is
officially on U. S. 50, the main U. S. 50 route between Pueblo and Rocky Ford is
further to the north on the other side of the Arkansas River. Vineland has
several vacant buildings, probably as a result of the main highway route
having been shifted northward many, many years ago. Vineland is a town that
primarily serves local residents rather than highway travelers as would be the
case if it were on the main route.
Nevertheless, U. S. 50 in this area is still heavily traveled, mainly by
locals and people from the southern portion of Pueblo traveling east to join
Page 11
