This shaft will become the new intake air and emergency ~,
escape shaft. The emergency escape hoist and building at the
existing Apache shaft will be relocated to the new shaft. The
area will be graveled and will be surrounded by a cyclone
fence. The existing Apache shaft will be converted to an
exhaust air shaft by installing a fan and fan house. No riew
power lines need to be constructed as power for the new shaft
will be brought up from underground and an adequate substsition
exists at the existing Apache Canyon shaft.
Reclamation of the new air shaft will occur after the' mine
is finished operating. The shaft collar will be sealed b}~
installing a bulkhead over the shaft opening. At this time,
CF&I anticipates that this bulkhead will be of steel or
reinforced concrete construction. The fence, escape hoist; and
building will be removed, topsoil replaced, and the area
revegetated in accordance with permit conditions.
Very little surface disturbance will be necessary for the
construction of this shaft. CF&I personnel have reviewed this
site closely during the planning stages and nothing of an
archeological or historical nature has been observed.
DWZ/as
AEpLHL
4-12-82
~ ~~,~ti '~
~~\~~
