-UCl-17-17}c l004~ rKUr~ Steamboat SkiBResort TO 913638328106 P.01
f
• IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII III
999
Erica Crosby
Div of Minerals and Geology
FAX (303) 832-8106
December 14, 1998
Unfortunately, we will be unable to attend the Board meeting scheduled for
tomorrow, Dec. 16's in Denver.
Although we understand that the Division has jurisdiction over limited areas
of raining, it is still extremely difficult for us to accept that some of our
concerns continue to remain unanswered:
(1) The applicant's consultant states that, (and I quote from page 4 of letter
dated 10/23/98), "Numerous examples are available wherein natural gas
pipelines have been damaged by construction well outside of the legal
easement." This is not a comforting statement considering our children are
playing in the yard just a few hundred yards away. We have already had one
natural gas explosion in this county. Human error does play a major part in
construction accidents around the country-for example the recent San
Francisco blackout caused by human error.
How can we be aissttr+ed our family will be safe?
(2) The applicant's consultant continues to present the final reclamation plan
as wetland areas that do not include ponds. Quote from page 9 of same
letter dated 10/23/98, `~+ve have deleted any references to the term "ponds" in
the permit application since we are not nroposing_anv ponds as part of the
final reclamation plea for this location." Yet on file in Roust County Court
dated 10/14/98, that is prior to the consultant's response letter, the attached
document indicates that water from adjoining springs will be used to "FII,L
PONDS AFTER AND DURING CONSTRUCTION OF GRAVEL PTT
AND FII.L FISH PONDS YET TO BE DEVELOPED."
"TO FILL PONDS AFTER PTT IS DONE." This is in contradiction to what
was stated in the proposed reclamation plan. This needs to be clarified at
this level as well as at the county level.
(3) The dales of mining are still inconsistent Although we realize this is not
a concern of the Division's, the applicant has still not responded to our
question. "The Legals" indicates mining will be competed on Nov 1, 2001,
