COOLEY RESERVOIIt AND FULTON WILDLIFE AREA
EROSION CONTROL PLAN
Erosion control will consist of constructing, installing, maintaining, and removing, when
required, erosion control measures during the life of the mine to prevent and/or *t+~n~**»?e erosion,
sedimentation, and pollution of any state waters.
The operator shall coordinate the construction of temporary erosion control measures with the
construction of permanent erosion control measure to assure economical, effective, and
continuous erosion control throughout the life of mine including reclamation periods.
Aggregate [ndustties, West Central Region, will employ the following best management practices
(BMPs), where applicable, to mmitttize erosion from its operations:
Seeding, Mulching, Soil Retention Blanket -Used to protect exposed soils against erosion.
Used to improve wildlife habitat and aesthencs
Erasion Bales -.4 temporary sediment barrier consisting of a row of entrenched and/or anchored
straw or hay bales
Silt Fence -used in grading areas in close proximity to bodies of water. A temporary vertical
barrier of filter fabric attached and supported by posts and entrenched into the ,;round
Temporary Berms -constructed of compacted soil and graded so as to drain to a designated
outlet
Brush Barrier - a temporary sediment bamer constructed a the penmeter of a disturbed azea
from the residue materials available from clearing the site. and generally covered with a filter
fabric
Check Dam -constructed of stone or logs used to reduce the velocity of water flows to non-
erosive velocities. Also, to allow for settling of sedimentation in water flows
Outlet Protection - Riprap -Used as an energy dissipation device to prevent scour and erosion
at the outlet by reducing the velocity and energy of concentrated flow
Sedimentation Ponds/Traps - a ponding azea formed by excavating below grade and/or by
construction an earth embankment that has a controlled outlet. Used to detain sediment-laden
runoff from disturbed areas long enough to allow for sediments to settle out
Site Grading -the disturbed area(s) will be graded in a manner to control the movement of water
to a desienated area to minimize erosion
Erosion control and impacts will be monitored semi-annually by Aggregate Industries,
environmental staff. Implementation of erosion control practices will be the responsibility of
operational management within the Aggregates Division.
Attached are current Blv1Ps for the Cooley Reservoir and Fulton Wildlife Area.
