• RULE 2.02 - GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR COAL EXPLORATION <br />Rule 2.02.1 Scope <br />This Section establishes the requirements for coal exploration outside <br />an approved permit area and is intended to ensure that such exploration is <br />conducted in a manner that protects the environment and complies with these <br />Rules. As set forth in 1.04 (21), coal exploration includes the gathering <br />of environmental data before beginning surface coal mining and reclamation <br />operations. These requirements include filing of notices of intention when <br />250 tons or less of coal will be removed during exploration, applying for <br />written approval when more than 250 tons of coal will be removed during <br />exploration; complying with coal exploration and reclamation standards, and <br />ensurino public availability of coal exploration information. <br />RESPONSE: <br />Rule 2.02 and its subsections are not applicable to this permit <br />application because exploration activities are not proposed. <br />• <br />2.02-1 <br />
