SaYivr - 2.05.3
• Construction of a coal screening installation
• • Modification of the existing crusher and associated transfer conveyors
• Modification of the existing silo and discharge gates
• Construction of a new batch-weigh loadout and transfer conveyor
• Phased development of the West Valley Fill coal reface and mine development waste
disposal area
• Construction of the West Valley haul road
The coal stacking rubes are fed bya segment of overland conveyor (Conveyor lA) running from the
existing Com~eyor No. 2 drive station through a transfer station to the top of the first stacking tube.
The stacking rubes provide approximately 50,000 tons of live storage each, with an additional 200,000
tons of dead storage available in the surrounding area by ptuhing coal away from the stacking tubes
with dozers. The resulting expanded Elk Creek coal stockpile, which has a maximum storage capacity
of approximately 300,000 tons of coal, replaced the former 60,000 ton capacity Elk Creek stockpile.
The transfer station on the Conveyor lA segment provides the capability to discharge either mine
development waste or coal to the East Yard storage area Eor temporary stockpiling if other systems
are down. Similarly, the Elk Creek Mme overland conveyor will tie-in to the Stacking Tube No. 1
headhouce.
Operation Description
• Ongoing and anticipated future Honing operations involve no surface raining activities. The
underground mining operations are described in general terms in Section 2.05.2 and in greater detail
in the preceding portions of this section. Areas affected by miming and related operations are shown
on the General Facilities Map, (Map 2.05-M1), and the Mme Plan Map, (Map 2.05 - M2).
Mine Facilities
The location of existing and proposed mine structures and facilities within the Mme Permit Area are
shown on the Mme Facilities Map, (Map 2.05-M1), facility details are shown on the Facihties Details
Map series, (Maps 2.05-M3x), and their functions, uses, and maintenance section are described m
detail in this section. Removal of the mine facilities and reclamation of the associated disturbance
areas will be accomplished in accordance with the reclamation plans described in Section 2.05.4.
Existing and proposed mine strtrctttres and facilities are described in the following sections.
Dimensions and general construction information for all mine facilities are provided by Table 2.05.1,
Mme Facilities Surrunary Table, in compliance with applicable regulatory provisions and as the basis
for estimating mine closure and reclamation costs.
Somerset Mine and Related Facilities -See the General Facilities Map, (Map 2.05-MI), and the
Facilities Detail Maps, (Map series 2.05-M3x).
All of the following mine facilities associated with the Somerset Mute were constructed or erected
prior to 1977 except as noted in the facility descriptioru. Essentially all of the Somerset Mme
facilities have either been panially or fully reclaimed or have been modified for rue with subsequent
mine operations. Those facilities which remain and have been modified are identified and discussed
under the current operations with which they are associated.
PR04 2.05-8 Revised August 2000
