• The mine and surrounding land encompasses the following soil types (Ref: Soils
Map, Rockcastle PermR 1981):
Soil Name
Coutis Fine Sandy loam
W+nevada - Spiitro Complex
Winevada Fine Sandy Loam
Skylick Loam
Hvdroloaic Sott Grouo
B
C-D
C
B
Hydrologic Soi! Groups were obtained from USDA-SCS TR-55, June 1986,
Exhibit 1.
Ground cover values were obtained from the Vegetation Monitoring and Bond
Release Evaluation prepared by Mr. Kent Crofts for the Grassy Creek Mine. This
evaluation is assumed to be the best source for ground cover conditions. The
Sagebrush reference area was used to determine undisturbed and premine curve
• numbers. Measured cover values for the reclaimed pits were used to determine
the reclaimed curve numbers.
Curve numbers were obtained from Procedures for Determining Peak Flows in
Colorado and Technical Release No. 55, (USDA-SCS, 1980). Based on soil type
and vegetation cover, curve numbers were determined using Table 2-2d, USDA-
SCS TR55, for the following conditions:
Undisturbed (Premine)
Soil Type: Predominately C
Ground Cover: 30% to 70 °~, Fair
Cover Type: Sagebrush with grass understory
CN : 63

4
