The <br />dissimilarity resulted from differences in the relative production <br />of the grass component. Specifically, the reference area produced <br />117.0 pounds per acre of grass, while only 48.1 pounds per acre <br />were produced from the premine sample site locations. Further <br />examination brought to light the probable cause of the discrepancy. <br />The premine vegetation area is situated less than 1,500 feet from <br />the major stock water facility in the Bush Draw. This, along with <br />the heavily grazed Drainage Bottom vegetation type, which is lo- <br />cated immediately below the Alkali Sagebrush site, increased the <br />grazing pressure on the site. Range technicians who collected the <br />field data noted that the premine area had been grazed rather <br />heavily and that the majority of the grass plants which were <br />clipped for pro- <br /> <br />~J <br />779-7I bbb <br />
