Subsidence Handbook Volume III, Exhit~it 15 •
Mass Movement Features - LANDSLIDES
Introduction
It is not expected that subsidence will adversely effect the stability of old landslides to the
extent that their deformations could be renewed. Attention will have to be paid to mining
close to the coal outcrop. The operator will leave one row of development pillars between
the outcrop and extracted pillars within the panel.
Worst-Case Damaoe
Subsidence could rejuvenate or cause a new landslide that could pose a hazard to the
mine facilities, public health and safety, and the environment.
Pre-Damage Monitoring
The operator will visually inspect known historic and modern landslides with the monitoring
frequency increased during the period immediately before retreat extraction in the •
immediate proximity of any landslide.
Post-Damage Monitoring
Post-Damage monitoring will be conducted like pre-damage monitoring.
Mining Techniques
Longwall or conventional room-and-pillar mining with pillar extraction will be performed.
The operator will leave one row of development pillars between the outcrop and extracted
pillars within the panel to prevent the potential crushing, sliding, or other failure near the
outcrop which could rejuvenate or cause a landslide.
Repair Procedures
Repairs wi11 be completed by appropriate earth-moving equipment when damage occurs
if required.
-._J
PR-04 42 10/00
