mesic drainage, improved pasture-upland, and alkali sagebrush/greasewood types in fall •
1993. Production sampling for these types was completed during the summer of 1994. The
production date is included in Attachment 10-2. Cropland information is presented in
Attachment 10-3.
Vegetation Maooing
Studv Areas. Mapping in the Yoast baseline and supplemental study areas uas completed in
1990 end 1992. Vegetation types were identified during field reconnaissance in spring
1990 and in fell 1991. During the spring 1990 reconnaissance a preliminary vegetation map
was prepared using a 1" 400' scale aerial photograph as a base. The fall 1991
reconnaissance was conducted to identify any new types occurring in the supplemental study
area. The final draft vegetation map was prepared from the preliminary vegetation maps
and detailed analysis of color aerial photography flown in 1988 and 1990. The color
photography was flown at a scale of 1" = 1000' and with sufficient overlap on the frames
to provide stereo pairs. A LietL M527 mirror stereoscope with Sx magnification was used
for interpretation of the aerial photography. Napping was verified by ESCO personnel
during field baseline studies. Final vegetation mapping was completed on a 1" 400' •
scale ortho photo base and transferred to a similar scale topographic map included as
Exhibit 10-1, Vegetation Nap (Sheets 1 and 2) to this tab. These final maps were prepared
using ARC/INFO GIS technology.
Adiacent Vegetation and Habitat. Exhibit 10-2, Adjacent Vegetation and Habitat Types,
includes all vegetation mapped within the permit area and within a one-half mite buffer
adjacent to the permit area. This map allows for evaluation of vegetation as important
habitat for wildlife relative to the permit area. Exhibit 10.2 was prepared in a similar
manner as Exhibit 10-1 but was completed et a scale of 1" = 1000' because of the large
area of coverage. The vegetation types in the buffer area correspond to those in the
permit area vith the exception of the sagebrush/western wheatgrass/alkali sagebrush (gBY)
complex which includes both the western wheatgras s/alkali sagebrush (vv) and the sagebrush
(58) types. These two types are closely associated and not easily delineated without
detailed field verification. It vas felt that the two types were sufficiently similar in
habitat characteristics that they need not be separated in the buffer area.
•
4
