• • WATER RESOURCES
Exhibit G
Water Resources
This operation, being a bottomland gravel pit, will affect groundwater and to a very limited extent
surface water. Exhibit C-1 shows the location of the Lester-Attebury ditch that flows next to and just
outside the western edge of the permit boundary. This ditch will not be affected. Nor would it be affected as
the applicant as well as the landowner are the owners of the water in this ditch.
The aquifers in the area includes only the groundwater that flows through the gravels. The only
ocher known aquifer is in the Dakota Formation approximately 500 feet below the surface. No effect on
that aquifer will occur.
The mining plan provides details on dewatering operations. Those operations mill be conducted
under a NPDES permit.
Project water needs will be fully addressed in the Substitute Supply Plan co be filed with the Division
of Water Resources. That plan will address consumptive uses in processing the gravel, dust control, and
evaporative losses from exposed ground water. The plan also contains information on other matters
necessary for compliance with Senate Bill 120.
The only well in the area is adjacent to the farmhouse just outside of the permit boundary. This well
is a hand dug well about 17 to 20 feet deep. Because of the recharge system in operation at the Great Blue
Heron Pic site and the fact that all mining of this site will be downgradient from the well, there should be
little or no negative impact on the well. Besides that, the landowner for this operation owns the well. Please
refer to Exhibit S (Valuable Man-Made Structures) for further information on this issue.
Project water requirements for reclamation will be essentially none. Irrigation of the revegetation is
not anticipated, and even if done would need to be addressed in the Substitute Supply Plan and/or
Augmentation Plan. Other features of water resources deriving from reclamation will be addressed in the
adjudication process to be implemented after completion of the mining and reclamation, especially the
implementation of a recharge system similar to that in operation at the Great Blue Heron site.
Grisenti Farms Gravel Pit Original Application Exhibit G Page G-1
