• • RECLAMATION PLAN
Exhibit E
Reclamation Plan
Final Land Use
The final land use for this site will primarily be wildlife habitat. A secondary use as an
aquifer recharge system will be applied. The lake in Phase 1 will provide the greatest wildlife benefit
due to its more gradual shoreline and stronger wetland character around the shores and in its broad
littoral zone. The lake in Phase 2 will have steeper slopes, have a greater average depth, and
somewhat less habitat value. In this lake shallows will only exist in the two coves in the
southeastern corner of the lake.
Another factor in the final land use concerns the final use for an adjacent reclaimed gravel
pit. At this point in time, discussions are continuing regarding the Great Blue Heron Pit site. It
appears possible that site will become part of the Upper Arkansas River Recreation Area,
administered jointly by the BLM and the Colorado Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation.
That site has also been considered as a possible fish hatchery to be administered by the Colorado
Division of ~7ildlife. Therefore, at this time, that site has at ]east two eventual uses that could be
highly beneficial to the eastern part of Fremont County.
Clearly, if the Great Blue Heron Pit is used for any of those uses, the Phase 1 part of this
operation would complement those uses. Phase 1 of this operation would be structured somewhat
similar to the North Lake at the Great Blue Heron Pit and therefore could be utilized in the same
way.
Phase 2 is perhaps less likely to fit into that pattern, especially for recreational uses. It seems
somewhat more likel}' that Phase 2, being farther from the highway and somewhat more isolated,
might best provide a more private habitat for nesting birds and for fishing.
Backfilling and Grading
The lakes will be configured with side slopes of a maximum grade of 3:1. Lake 1 (see Exhibit
F) will generally have far more gradual slopes than Lake 2. This is intended so the Lake 1 area,
being adjacent to the highway, can be reclaimed into a much more attractive form than is usually
associated with gravel pit fakes. Lake 2, being more hidden, will be somewhat more conventional in
its form and appearance.
Grisenti Farms Gravel Pit Original Application Exhibit E Page E-1
