• • MINING PLAN <br />whether any material will need to be transferred from Phase 2 to complete Phase 1. Per unit area, <br />there appears to be more material available in Phase I than Phase 2, so the amount that would need <br />be borrowed should not be very great, if any. <br />Mining in Phase 2 begins much as it did in Phase 1, that is, on the far end of the site. Mining <br />will then proceed northwest across the site toward the plant. Although there is no map for the <br />initiation of Phase 2, Exhibit C-2C shows the general layout of the site as it should appear near the <br />middle of Phase 2. The only difficult aspect to Phase 2 operation is the maintenance of the location <br />of the dewatering outfall. Because this must be maintained at the lowest end of the pit, the outfall <br />should remain in the same place throughout the operation, assuming the river channel doesn't <br />change. This may require extending the dewatering pipe as the operation nears completion. This <br />may occur because of backfilling of the most southerly corner of the lake after the operation passes <br />the mid point. <br />Coordinating the mining and reclamation is similar to Phase 1. That is, backfilling of mined <br />out areas occurs as a more or less continuous process. Newly stripped overburden can either be <br />stockpiled in a temporary stockpile which will be convenient for final placement or it can be hauled <br />to an area that is ready to receive backfill material. Please refer to the last section in this exhibit for <br />further information on coordinating the mining and reclamation. <br />Material Processing <br />This operation will utilize a single plant site. The plant will be located adjacent to and just <br />north of Phase 2. It is anticipated that about four to five acres will be needed for the plant and <br />product stockpiles. The plant site will be connected to the entrance via an access road that extends <br />along the southern edge of Phase 1. That access road is expected to remain in place throughout the <br />life of the operation. <br />Haulage <br />Due to the size of the operation, it is unlikely that trucks will be used to haul the gravel <br />back and forth from the pit to the plant. Although that can be done, it is inefficient. A more <br />efficient technique that many mine operators are turning to is the use of conveyors to transport the <br />pit run material to the plant. In the long run, conveyors are less expensive than trucks and require <br />less maintenance. Another advantage is that conveyors generate very little dust. Therefore, watering <br />for dust control is greatly reduced which even further reduces the cost of operation. <br />Grisenti Farms Gravel Pit Original Application Exhibit D Page D-7 <br />
