6
Rectangular blocks of various sizes were inventoried for PEDS-2, 3 & 20
because of uncertainty as to the exact drill hole location. Due to uncertainty
as to which side of the half-section line fence the drill hole was to be located
on, a rectangular block measuring 300'(N-S) by 400'(E-W) was surveyed on PEDS-2
with the fence dividing the block in half (i.e.- 300' x 200' block on either
side). A block roughly 2.75 acres in size was thus inventoried. For drill hole
PEDS-3, a rectangular block measuring 150'(N-S) x 400'(E-W) was surveyed to
accommodate possible changes in the place where the access road would enter the
location. The northern boundary of the survey block corresponds with the half
section line fence. A total of 1.4 acres was inventoried. A rectangular block
measuring 250'(N-S) x 400'(E-W) was surveyed for PEDS-20 because of uncertainty
as to which side of the half section line fence the drill hole was to be located
on. The surveyed area south of the staked location measures 150'(N-S) x 400'(E-
W) while the surveyed area north of the staked-location measures 100'(N-S) x -
(400'(E-W). The northern boundary of the survey block corresponds with the
southern boundary of the survey corridor for the kV transmission line (Lenin &
Wheeler 1987; Jennings ~ Sullivan 1976), and the half section line fence divides
the block in half. Roughly 2.3 acres was surveyed for this block.
The amount of access road surveyed also varied as the length of it varied
for each drill hole location. The common access for PEDS-1, 10, & 20 was 0.45
miles in length starting from the point where it left an existing two-track farm
road (no improvements planned) to the point where it enters the survey corridor
for the kV transmission line (Lenin & Wheeler 1987; Jennings & Sullivan 1977).
A total of 5.4 acres were inventoried for it. The accesses for PEDS-1 & 20 are
within the survey corridor for the k transmission line and were therefore not
inventoried during the current investigation. The access for PEDS-2 was
approximately 0.3 miles in length beginning at the point where it leaves an
existing two-track farm road (no improvements planned) to the drill hole location
on the west side of the fence. Approximately 3.6 acres was inventoried. The
access for PADS-3 was approximately 300 feet in length beginning at the point
where it leaves an existing two-track road (no improvements planned) to the drill
hole location. Approximately 0.7 acres was inventoried. Access to PEDS-9 was
approximately 0.3 miles in length and makes use of an existing two-track to which
improvements are planned. It begins at the point where the two track road leaves
the improved dirt road (Big Bottom Gulch Road) and ends at the drill hole
location. Approximately 3.6 acres were inventoried. Lastly, the access to PEDS-
25 uses an existing two-track road and is 2.5 miles in length. The portion
surveyed during the current investigation begins at the previously inventoried
kV transmission line corridor and runs to the drill hole location. Improvements
are planned at two spots along this road within the exploration area, and some
repair work to the entire length of road after drilling operations was also
thought possible. Therefore, the entire length of access road was inventoried
which amounted to approximately 30 acres.
RESULTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The results were similar to those expected based on previous work in the
area. Two isolated finds were found during the course of this investigation.
SMF3873 is apiece of glazed white earthenware with a fine yellow/buff paste was
found within the access corridor for drill hole PEDS-9. It was found in the
