More specifically, the roadways include the Eastern
Extension of Haul Road B; the West Refuse Pile Haul Road; and the Fish Creek Borehole Access Road.
Afield exploration program was conducted to obtain information on the existing gravel pavement
sections and the subsurface conditions. Material samples obtained during the subsurface investigation
were tested in the laboratory to provide data on the classification and engineering characteristics of the
road base gravels and the subgrade soils. The results of the field and laboratory investigations are
presented herein.
This repon has been prepared to summazize the data obtained and to present our conclusions and
recommendations, based on the existing conditions encountered and the assumed traffic loadings. A
discussion of geotechnical engineering considerations related to improvement of the existing roadways in
the selected areas are also included.
Proaosed Construction: We understand that this project will consist of the improvement of the gravel
sections for the existing roadways and the construction of a new gravel section for the haul road situated
at the west edge of the Refuse Pile. The existing roadways, which will be improved include the eastern
extension of Haul Road B and the Fish Creek Borehole Access Road. All of the subject roadways will be
gravel surfaced. It is our understanding that the haul roads will be subjected to a mixture of automobile
and off road haul trucks and eatth moving equipment. The access roads will generally be limited to
pickup traffic and occasional delivery trucks or construction vehicles.
Site Conditions: At the time of this investigation, the subject roadways were surfaced with highly
variable amounts of granular road base. The roadway surfaces generally appeared to be in poor to good
• condition and the majority of the roadway subgrade materials appeazed stable at the time this repon was
prepared. The existing roadways generally had been constructed with drainage/borrow ditches along
3 , (970) 879.7888 • Fax (970) 879.7891 ~~.~~~f~F~fl g' APR 1 4 2uud
2063 Snow Bowl Plaza, P.O.
