• ROCKCASTLE COMPANY
GRASSY CREEK MINE
Adequacy Responses
To CMLRD 9/13/91 Comments
October, 1991
NOTE: This submittal includes responses only to those comments specifically
relating to the Pit 4 disturbance area. Responses to all other adequacy
comments will be submitted as a separate response package.
PIT 4
1) Please submit the plan to backslope the Pit 4 area above Pond 4. Include
pertinent pond desigru if the slope reduction activities will result in changes to Pond
4. Inckufe bond calculations including the estimated volume of material for the
• work
Response: Rockcastle has developed a plan to backslope the existing steep
slope area adjacent to the east side of Pond 4. This plan reflects
establishment of a 3H:1V slope, with the toe of the slope extending into the
existing Pond 4 basin and the slope crest extending to the east edge of the
existing topsoil stockpile. Backsloping will involve movement of approximately
27,000 cubic yards of spoil material using a tracked dozer to push the
material downslope to establish the design configuration.
The south end of the steep slope area will be backsloped first with the dozer
working diagonally across the slope. This approach avoids disturbance of
the existing topsoil stockpile and provides for a relatively short direct dozer
push to replace topsoil on the regraded area. By proper sequencing of
regrading operations, Rockcastle can limit double handling to approximately
50 percent of the 10,000 cubic yards of topsoil to be replaced.
Attachment 2
-1-
