Air Pem~if App7icffia~ for lore~cifa Cod Cm~mry
The haul road will be directed azound the active pit and join the coal hauling roads lea, iing out of •
the active pit areas. The final location of the road will be constructed as the final grades aze
established.
After the cut through the ridge is wmpleted, a cross ridge operation will be established on the east
face. A contour cut on the lowest seam to be mined will be kept 300 feet in advance of the main
pit area. The material from the contour cut will be pushed or hauled into adjacent filYs. A solid
berm will be left along the outcrop to keep material from going down slope. After the contour cut
has been established on the north and south sides of the ridge, cuts will be taken down the center
of the ridge on the exposed coal seams. The material from these cuts will be pushed, hauled, or
cast into the open pit azeas in the center of the ridge. This material will be graded to meet final
reclamation contours and coveted with topsoil or suitable material. This sequencing will minimi~r
the [teed for topsoil storage and re-handling. Topsoil or other suitable material will be hauled or
pushed from its original location to the graded azeas during the mining cycle. Except for the
initial cut through the ridge, the outslopes and pit areas will be graded to final conu~urs within
1,500 ft. of the active pit area except as noted above.
Coal will be removed as it is exposed and hauled from the pits. Shale and other extraneous
material separated from the coal prior to loading will be left in the pit or placed with the
overburden.
Sediment structures will be kept in advance of the outcrop cut for the proper control of sediment. •
The milting operation will proceed east with the ridge. As fills are encountered, they will be filled
with material adjacent to [hem. The cross ridge operation will continue until the east end of the
ridge is reached. The material at the end of the ridge will be placed into the adjacent fill and the
remaining material graded to meet final contours.
Hollow Fill Construction
All vegetation will be removed from the area covered by the fdl and the adjacent spoil
transportation zones. The vegetation will be burned or removed from the property if it has
economic value. A contour cut will be taken on any coal seams encountered within the fill
boundary and the coal removed. The material from this cut will be placed in the fill.
Overburden from the mining operation will be pushed with dozers or end dumped into the bottom
of the fill. Natural segregation will cause the large rocks to collect at the bottom of the fill. These
lazge rocks will be worked with a dozer to construct a rock drain. This drain will run from the
tce to the head of the valley being filled. The remaining overburden will be used to bring the fill
to its designed profile and elevation.
The outslope of the fill will be graded at 2.5:1 with 20 foot benches constructed every 40 feet in
elevation. The ouulopes and top of the fill will be covered with topsoil or suitable material after •
rough grading takes place. The outslopes will be walked with a dozer to min;m;~e erosion prior
to seeding. Rock drains will be installed on each side of the fill to carry run off to a sediment
,u ns,~.~~,~y u. rem 7
