<br />AIR PERMIT APPLICATION FOR
<br />LORENCITO COAL COMPANY
<br />INTRODUCTION
<br />Lorencito Coal Company (LCC) is presenting this air permit application to comply with the
<br />Colorado Air Qualiry Control Commission regulations concerning the control of fugitive
<br />particulate emissions from their proposed Lorencito Canyon Mine surface and underground coal
<br />mining facility (SIC 1221 and 1222) neaz Weston, Colorado.
<br />Location
<br />The LCC facility will be located approximately 20 miles west of Trinidad, Colorado on Colorado
<br />State Highway 12 (Figure 1). The azea to be affected is entirely within Las Animas County. The
<br />approximate elevation of the mine plan azea is 7,000 feet above sea level and varies from 6,600
<br />feet to 7,200 feet over the permit area.
<br />The LCC permit area consists of 17,895 acres (Figure 2). The legal description of the permit azea
<br />consists of the following:
<br />Township 33 South, Range 66 West
<br />Portions of Sections 31, 32 and 33;
<br />Township 33 South, Ranee 67 West
<br />Portions of Sections 35 and 36;
<br />Township 34 South, Range 66 West
<br />All of Sections 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 and 29
<br />Portions of Sections 3, 4, I0, 15, 22, 27, 28, 30, 31, 32 and 33; and
<br />Township 34 South, Range 67 West
<br />All of Sections 1, 11, 12 and 13
<br />Portions of Sections 2, 3, 10, 14, 15, 23, 24 and 25.
<br />The UTM coordinates of the approximate center point of the mine permit area aze 519.985
<br />Basting, 4110.428 northing, zone 13.
<br />Schedule and Production
<br />Construction of the LCC is scheduled to begin in August, 1997, on the surface mine and the P-3,
<br />• R-1 and R-2 underground mines as shown on Figure 2. Limited production is scheduled to
<br />commence in late October, 1997. Construction of the P-1 and P-2 underground mines is scheduled
<br />to begin in 2000 depending upon the production capacities and the mazket for the coal. The R-3
