Paul Carr
Inspector, Field Services
Air Pollution Control Division
•
•
Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment
4300 Cherry Creek Drive, South, APCD-SS-B 1
Denver, CO 80246-1530
November 30, 2001
_ _ _ _RE`expiration ot;ccutstntction-permit,-Q7LA0026F-
Dear Paul Carr:
4EGEl1lEQ
C1~: E~ 0 3 200
Division of Minerals 8 Ge010gy
Greystone Environment Consultants, Inc. is submitting this letter on behalf of the Lorencito Coal
Company.
During an inspection at Lorencito Canyon Coal Mine, an inspector from either the APCD or the
Division of Minerals and Geology identified that the Lorencito Coal Company's Air Pollution
Emission Notice and construction permit, 97LA0026F, had expired. Lorencito was then
requested by the State to renew the permit.
Construction permit, 97LA0026F, was issued on November 19, 1997 but has since been
cancelled. According to Chip Hancock, Public Health Engineer for the APCD, the permit expired
because Lorencito did not begin construction. However, a new construction permit, Ol LAU642,
was issued to Lorencito Coal Company as initial approval on September 18, 2001. The new
construction permit replaces the old expired permit. A copy of the new permit is maintained on-
site at Lorencito.
The intent of this letter is to inform the State that Lorencito Coal Company will not be renewing
the expired construction permit and that Lorencito understands that the current construction
permit applies to material extraction, handling, stockpiling, and hauling activities at the Lorencito
-Canyon-Mine. -- --- - - - - -
If you have any questions please feel free to call me at (303) 850-0930.
