.o
i
P
v
C~
APPENDI% 9-6 (Continued)

75uita bility parameters: Topsoil quality was always suitable for the following parameters: pH, boron, selenium, molybdenum, copper, and zinc.
With exception to three samples (Spicerton variant, SN 34, 8-t8", 78-43", and 43-60"), ail EC values were suitable.
25at Po: Saturation Percentage
3
Texture: Soil Texture
4
SAR: Sodium Adsorption Ratio
SCaC03: Calcium Carbonate Equivalent Percentage
6
Frag Po: Rock Fragment Percent
7
Con: Consistence. VN - very hard; VFI - very firm; VS - very sticky; and VP - very plastic. According to Schafer (1979), these
consistency levels are unsuitable.
8
Suit: Overall rating of soil horizon for topsoil salvage. S = suitable; U = unsuitable; M = marginal; NS = no sample collected far
laboratory analysis. See Table 9-2 for suitability criteria. Marginal quality topsoil should be carefully evaluated to determine
topsoil suitability. All field and lab properties should be considered as well as parameter interactions. Ultimate topsoil
replacement depths, overburden quality, and the postmi ne land use should be reviewed. This material will be salvaged for topsoil
only if absolutely necessary to achieve the intended pos tmine land use.
9
Limiting
Factors: The limiting factors are listed on the appropriate line adjacent to the suitability for the horizon in question.
70Rec TSD: Recommended topsoil salvage depth in inches for the individual sampled pedon. All profile descriptions and laboratory data for each
sampled pedon were evaluated. Other profile descriptions are referenced for each soil series (see Appendix 9-3). Weighted average
Rec. TSDs for each soil map unit (weighted average of major components and inclusions) is presented in Chapter 21, Minesoil
Reconstruction, of this PAP.
