Lincoln DeVora, Inc., hav•
completed lnboratory direct shear !eating of coal relusa material
delivered to our Colorado 6pringa laboratory facility on July 27,
1988. Thi• material wee not obtained in the field by personnel
o! Lincoln DeVore, inc. As a result, this laboratory cannot
verify the field location from which the material was obtained,
or the method of sampling.
The taste were performed using the procedures outlined in ]18M
D-3080, Method for Direst Shear Test of Soils Under Coneplidated
Drained Conditions. At your request, three consolidated-draiaad
teat series were performed on rapraaantative materials remolded
to the average dry densities of 63.8, 54.3 end 44.3 pci, at
approximately 25~ moisture content. The tests were performed at
a strain rate of approximately 0.002 inches/minute. The test
specimens were consolidated under normal loads varying between
1,000 to 6,000 psf prior to performing the shear tact. The
placement dry densities and dry densities after specimen con-
solidation are summarised on the attached sheets. The moisture
contents at molding and at completion oL the tests are also sua-
mari:ed on the attached sheets. The consolidated dry densities
were calculated using normal displacement consolidation data
readings and placement moisture contents.
